Our history

We restored our first rocking horse over 25 years ago in the course of our antiques restoration business. So rapidly did we become fascinated by these delightful creatures that we have ever since concentrated exclusively on restoring and making these highly decorative heirlooms. Rocking horses hold a special charm for both children and adults and are at home anywhere in the home, not just in the nursery. After we bought our first rocking horse, we were captivated forever. Our antiques restoration business and shop, Windmill Antiques in Harrogate, in which we sold high quality small antique furniture, boxes, caddies and children’s furniture swiftly became Classic Rocking Horses. We subsequently concentrated solely on restoration of antique rocking horses and making hand carved traditional New Classic Rocking Horses. The advent of the internet meant that our shop was no longer required and we decided to work from home.

We bring all the knowledge and experience gained in antique furniture restoration to reproduce faithfully the special character achieved by the original Victorian and Edwardian craftsmen. Unlike many modern rocking horse makers, we do not attempt to impose our own personality upon our rocking horses, preferring instead to continue the delightful styles developed by the old makers. For this reason we have taken patterns from the very best examples of Lines and Ayres antique rocking horses, which we feel cannot be improved upon.
